Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Emil Heckel

November 11, 1875 · Vienna

Overview

Hailing Heckel as the 'most excellent recruiter of patrons', Wagner relates how a cantor in Zwickau collected six and three-quarter Patrons' Certificates and asked whether that entitled him to a free seat. Tannhäuser is to be given in Vienna on the 21st, and Heckel should get the rehearsal plans from Feustel or the Nibelung Chancery.

Letter

Allervorzüglichster Patronenlader!

Otherwise it is going so-so!—A cantor, Fischer, in Zwickau, has recently collected six and three-quarter Patrons' Certificates, sent six thousand marks, with the inquiry if this sum would entitle him to a free seat (!!!). Tannhäuser here the 21st of this month (!!)—I have none of the rehearsal plans with me; have one sent you from Feustel or Fischer (“Nibelung Kanzlei”).

Many cordial greetings from your harassed

Richard Wagner.
