Monday, July 21:
Again a bad night for R., Putz howling in quite a fantastic way; R. goes downstairs, is glad to see the two big dogs sleeping quietly, sees a light in Georg's room: “What spooks' meeting is going on in there?” Georg is fast asleep, having forgotten to put out his light!
Then R. went back to sleep, and was awoken, as he tells me, by a pleasant dream: I had come to him in very high spirits with a blue ribbon and had wanted to do something with him, to bind something around him or cut it off. Bad weather! And the books R. is reading are not very enlivening - a new pamphlet about the Jews by Marr, Glagau's Des Reiches Not - what would we not give to hear nothing more about politics! An article on Schumann by Herr Rub. gives us pleasure, his ideas are good and his style concise, though he is just a little too spare. A short game of whist and finishing The Government Inspector in the evening.
