Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 26, 1876

Overview

The first rehearsal of Siegfried’s second act is emotionally mixed: Unger is hoarse, which causes real concern, yet the act itself makes a splendid impression. R. returns home sad because the scenery does not match his vision, but Brandt repairs the situation astonishingly quickly. That rescue restores a cheerful mood by evening.

Monday, June 26:

First rehearsal of Siegfried, second act. Herr Unger hoarse, which is really distressing, not to say serious. All the same, the act makes a wonderful impression. The scenery is outstandingly beautiful, and Herr Brandt has once again worked wonders.

R. returned home at noon very sad, the scenery was not at all what he had wished for. Our masterly Brandt put it all in order in the space of only a few hours. On that account a very cheerful mood in the evening.
