Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Minna Wagner

October 15, 1854 · Zurich

Overview

Wagner regrets that Minna, touring Germany, will not be able to hear Lohengrin anywhere, though Schindelmeisser may perform Tannhäuser for her in Darmstadt, and sends greetings to Liszt.

Letter

You'll be pretty unlucky about my operas, and you won't get to hear Lohengrin anywhere. Schindelmeisser wrote me that even in this month Lohengrin has already been given twice; because of the small size of the audiences, a third performance is not possible so shortly afterward. On the other hand, he wants to come to see you in Frankfurt (as soon as you have promptly notified him of your arrival) and perhaps perform Tannhäuser for you in Darmstadt. Liszt probably doesn't have Lohengrin in the repertoire either. So you'll have to console yourself with the hope that I'll perform it for you some day.

Now I only wish that you come back healthy and invigorated. I have really nothing more to tell: this contains everything!

Give Liszt my very best regards!

I long for you fervently.

Your
R.
