Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Otto Wesendonck

October 21, 1854 · Zurich

Overview

A whimsical note announcing that "we" have been made an Honorary Member of the Netherlands Music Society, with the suggestion that Wesendonck hang their first joint laurel-wreath in his counting-house.

Letter

You see, honoured friend, we no longer need lack; what we long have striven for is now attained — we are made an Honorary Member of the Netherlands Music-society. Our first joint laurel-wreath I beg you to hang up in your counting-house: the sight of it will give you courage and endurance, as it already has much exalted me!
