Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 1, 1871

Overview

Splendid weather lets Cosima work with the children in the garden while Richard reviews youthful essays for his collected writings. She copies Tannhäuser and the family visits Countess B. before supper outdoors. Plans for their future house mingle aspiration with doubt about whether they can ever make it real.

Worked in the garden with the children; it is splendid weather. R. goes through the essays of his youth for the collected writings. I copy out the first scene of Tannhäuser.

Family lunch and afterward drove to Countess B.’s. In the evening had supper in the garden, designed our house. Will we ever bring all this into being? Schure is now writing in German again!
