Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 10, 1871

Overview

The ratification of peace in Frankfurt confirms the sense that their Berlin journey coincided with a larger settlement. Richard writes letters and revisits his Leipzig origins, showing Cosima his birthplace and old family locations. Tiredness sends him early to bed while she remains with the kind Brockhaus family.

Wednesday, May 10:

Hermann reports that the peace has now been ratified in Frankfurt. So Bucher was right when he wrote to me, just before leaving, that we would restore peace to the world.

R. writes letters, then he shows me the house “Zum Roth und Weissen Lowen,” and we visit the apartment in which he was born; I also see Jeannettchen Thome’s house.

R. is very tired and goes to bed early; I stay up with the dear, kind family. In the afternoon drove to the Rosental.
