Diary Entry of March 29, 1871

Overview

Financial hopes are checked when the life insurance cannot be sold and Paris conditions prevent legal help. Cosima works with the children, who please her mother, and receives a calmer visit from Countess Bassenheim before a sunset walk. Wednesday, March 29:

We learn that the life insurance cannot be sold; I write to the lawyer in Paris, who is also unable to send me anything in the present circumstances. Work with the children, whom my mother likes very much.

In the afternoon a visit from Countess Bassenheim, calmer. Walk with my mother in a lovely sunset. In the evening R. reads the first act of Tristan, which impresses me with its sublime perfection and moves me indescribably.
