Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 3, 1871

Overview

With little outside news and inner calm restored, Richard nears the end of the Siegfried score. Domestic errands and correspondence continue, including Marie Muchanoff's response to the Beethoven essay. Cosima worries over Evchen's withdrawn manner while Richard teases her for delighting in the pamphlets she reads.

Content

Friday, February 3:

Nothing from outside, and inwardly at peace; R. reaches the end of the score of Siegfried; in a few more days it will be completed.

Fetched Lusch from school. A letter from Marie Muchanoff, who also feels the Beethoven essay to be a revelation. R. laughs at me for spending all my time reading the pamphlets and being delighted with everything in them.

I am worried about Evchen, who is apathetic and not herself toward us.
