Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 24, 1870

Overview

Snow persists as Cosima balances work, lunch with the children, and a run of correspondence to Brussels, Pohl, and Porges. A hopeful letter from Pohl concerns the goblet, while evening reading of Gottfried’s Tristan provokes indignation over Brangaene. Hagen’s offer to conduct Die Walkuere adds another professional complication to the ongoing performance crisis.

Thursday, March 24:

Still snow. Lunch with the children after work. Letter from R. Pohl, which gives me some hope for the goblet. I write to Brussels, to Dr. Pohl, and to Porges. In the evening read Gottfried’s Tristan, with indignation (because of Brangäne!). The conductor Hagen sends a telegram, offering his services as conductor for Die Walküre.
