Friday, October 29:
R. feels tired, although he had a good night. We meet around noon in the Belle Arti, after I have visited Tesarini's daughter in the convent, a very charming girl of 15. In the Belle Arti the Carpaccios and the Callots capture his attention, and he says how much he likes such pictures; the Laurentius, on the other hand, which I find enchanting, does not appeal to him at all.
He then goes to the station with friend Jouk. to reserve the saloon carriage. His unwillingness to meet women is becoming more and more marked, and he does not pay a farewell visit to the so friendly Hatzfeldt house.
In the evening we go for a walk in Saint Mark's Square with the 3 younger children, the two elder ones being with Mimi. For the last time we delight in the lovely square, which looks, he says, as if the Doge received the whole of Venice there.
