Thursday, October 28:
R. is suffering from rheumatism and pain in his right leg. He revises his article, and in the afternoon we go to the bank, whose director, a Jewish enthusiast, R. finds very unpleasant.
We have seen how our old friend Tesarini's stay here in Venice has been made downright impossible, all because of Israel. He has been deprived of all his lessons, and slanders of the most virulent sort have created a kind of wall of destruction, looming ever closer over the poor rogue.
We are alone in the evening, the children being at Princess Hatzfeldt's; R. reads his article aloud.
