Sunday, June 6:

Siegfried's birthday. He comes to bring me good wishes in the name of his father, who, along with Boni, has already been jokingly serenading him with "Jungfernkranz". Presentation of gifts around 1 o'clock. R. gives the boy a nice book about America.

The weather not very good, but all the same a boat trip to Cape Posilipo; R. recalls the Norwegian cliffs, where one has the feeling of being protected. He told me yesterday about the orange sunrise and asked me whether I felt like fetching my blankets again.

In the evening friend Rubinstein plays his "Picture" of the three Rhinemaidens, Siegfried's apotheosis, and the conclusion of Götterdämmerung, to the joy and entrancement of us all. Before that the singers arrived, having seen the illuminated terrace from below, and sang some songs for Siegfried. As our good boy says good night, one sees his inner gratitude and solemn emotion. Here a blessing, too, my child!

(The children played Cinderella.)
