Diary Entry of July 11, 1877

Overview

The day began with a carriage ride to Schwetzingen that left the travelers more amused than deeply delighted, though their spirits stayed light. On the way back they took a falcon as a favorable sign, and the afternoon concert ended without much improvement despite the conductor’s attempts to correct the tempi.

Wednesday, July 11:

(Morning) Drive to Schwetzingen; no particular pleasure in frivolity and decadence, but cheerful spirits throughout. On the homeward journey we see a falcon circling high above our heads; we welcome it as a good omen.

In the afternoon, a concert. The conductor Rosenkranz asks to be put right on certain tempi, but it does not help much.
