Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 15, 1876

Overview

Crossing the Brenner brought a rush of gratitude and memory, as the mountains seemed to greet us and I kept thinking of the farewell in Munich and the night journey with Isolde and Eva in my arms. By late morning we arrived in Verona, where confusion at the hotel and much laughter ended only when we finally went to bed.

Friday, September 15:

Journey over the Brenner. Greetings to the mountains, which gave me shelter! To the Alps, which bestowed their blessing on my mission; thoughts of the parting in Munich, the night journey with Isolde and Eva, both in my arms. Much remembering and weeping!

At 11 o’clock arrival in Verona, hotel muddles, much laughter, at 1 o’clock at last to bed.
