Friday, September 8:

Our copyists to lunch, last meal together; very melancholy! Harsh things said about Herr Brandt, his rudeness, not justified by his achievements, his nasty attitude toward R., etc. R. is very hurt and does all he can to defend his colleague, but it is hard to defend all his actions. This makes him very sad.
