Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 31, 1876

Overview

A troubling dream left R. waking in tears after imagining the writer throwing herself into the water, which stirred her own thoughts of death and longing. In the evening, Kladderadatsch provided comic pieces about Tristan und Isolde, and M. Tribert wrote very kindly about representing her interests. Even with those consolations, the day carried a heavy emotional weight.

Friday, March 31:

R. dreams that I threw myself into the water, and he wakes up with tears and cries. This astonishes me, for I have never before thought about death so much and with so much longing.

In the evening Kladderadatsch, which contains many comical things about the performance of Tristan und Isolde. M. Tribert has written in a very friendly way about representing my interests.
