Diary Entry of March 8, 1876

Overview

A delayed letter finally arrived, along with confirmation that her mother had already been buried, deepening the family's uncertainty and distance from Paris. She and R. drove to the cemetery, where the grave was well cared for, and she resolved to have it fenced in.

Wednesday, March 8:

A letter of the 2nd, held up in Bayreuth, reaches me today, telling me about an illness which was not considered serious. A telegram from Schuré in response to an inquiry from R. informs us that my mother was buried yesterday.

All inquiries addressed to Claire remain unanswered. I drive to the cemetery with R., making the same journey I made 16 years ago behind the coffin of my brother. The grave is well looked after. I intend to have it fenced in.
