Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 20, 1876

Overview

More dictation and lessons were followed by Betz’s view that Scaria should indeed be dismissed, and R. wrote accordingly to Jauner. The question now turned to how Frau Materna would respond. The day was further unsettled by a changed lunch hour, friction between the governess and parlormaid, and trouble with the writer’s eyes.

Content

Thursday, January 20:

Further dictation and lessons; R. receives Herr Betz’s opinion that Scaria will have to be dispensed with. R. writes to Herr Jauner accordingly.

How will Frau Materna now react?

Change of daily routine (lunch at 3 o’clock), squabbles between governess and parlormaid, on top of that trouble with my eyes!
