Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 21, 1875

Overview

After the strain of the previous day, R. slept for ten hours and was cheerful again, though I avoided reopening the subject of the rehearsal because he cannot bear dwelling on old discomforts. Later he called on Prince Hohenlohe and his singers, and the evening ended pleasantly with Semper visiting us, while I also saw Marie D.

Content

Sunday, November 21:

As a result of yesterday’s exertions R. slept for ten hours. We exchanged no words following the rehearsal, for I know only too well that there is nothing R. hates more than talking about bad experiences now past!

Thanks to his sleep he is well and cheerful, visits Prince Hohenlohe, and his female singers; in the evening we have Semper with us, to our great delight. In between I visit Marie D.
