Thursday, July 29:
Much to do; rehearsal of Die Walküre and Gibichungen ensembles; departure of Herr Niemann, a great relief! At 3 o’clock my father arrived; he is looking well and is glad to be with us.
Herr Niemann is still here, comes to the rehearsal in the evening, behaves in such a dismally conceited way during it, and is so arrogant that R. can hardly contain himself and angrily gives vent to his feelings in front of the others. On top of that, Herr Unger is lamentable in the second act of Götterdämmerung.
