Overview

An apartment conference drains the day, leaving R. irritable and unwell and her thoughts circling the waste of time when he could be working on Parsifal. Even so, Unger’s diligent efforts offer some encouragement, and a kind letter from Lusch, despite her illness, ends the day on a gentler note.

Tuesday, June 22:

Conference on apartments. R. afterward in a very bad humor and unwell. When I think that he could be working on Parsifal and has to sacrifice his time and strength to such things, I could despair. What power keeps us on our feet??

In the afternoon Herr Unger, who pleases R. a lot through his application, but it is a strain on him. Good letter from Lusch, though she has been ill.
