Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of April 30, 1875

Overview

R. wanted me to go with him to Vienna, though I preferred to stay home and watch over the house. He found some satisfaction in composing the ending of "Hagen's Watch," but the theater visit soured my mood when I saw that the site was still neglected and unusable for planting.

Friday, April 30:

R. definitely wants me with him in Vienna; I should like to stay at home to keep an eye on the house. He composes the concert ending to Hagen’s Watch, which puts him in good spirits.

In the afternoon a drive to the theater; terrible impression again - nothing done about the ground clearance, all the rubble still lying around, no plantings possible this year! ... Dismal mood; in the evening some calming down and restoration of spirits.
