Saturday, May 1:
Long sleep; nasty letter from Feustel; R. resolves to return a part of the site to the town, since it is so mean about doing anything. I am always comparing R. to the poor hare in the fairy tale, wearing himself out while the two hedgehogs look calmly on! ...
In the afternoon drove to the theater in fine weather, Rus following behind, barking and leaping; there inspected the orchestra pit once again; firm decision made. In the evening unpleasant discoveries for R.: Herr v. Reichenberg, engaged for Fafner, can think of nothing better to do than describe R.’s indoor garments in the newspaper; he also says the silliest things about the house. R. gives him his notice.
