Diary Entry of February 16, 1875

Overview

I spend the entire day with Frl. Nietzsche, introducing her both to the household and to our circle of friends, while the weather remains fine. But the evening brings more strain: Herr Brandt arrives saying his preparatory work is finished, and yet other expected helpers are being blocked or refused leave, leaving R. exhausted and the whole enterprise unsettled.

Tuesday, February 16:

Devoted the whole day to Frl. Nietzsche, introducing her to the household as well as to our circle of friends. Fine weather. In the evening Herr Brandt from Darmstadt, saying he has completed all his preparatory work. R. very worn out; Hill, on whom we so firmly counted, suddenly writes to say he cannot come. The people in Karlsruhe are behaving badly and refusing even the people in Darmstadt permission to participate; the Mannheim theater committee is making it impossible for Herr Knapp to come!
