Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 15, 1875

Overview

The day brings a feeling that joy must somehow be paid for, and that mood is deepened when R. catches a cold and Feustel reports the government’s shabby treatment of him over the Kissingen waters lease. Against this discouraging backdrop, Frl. Nietzsche’s arrival is a relief: she is lovely, friendly, cheerful, and will remain with them during their absence.

Content

Monday, February 15:

Today I had the feeling that one must atone for all delight! R. catches cold, vexed by the present state of things. Feustel tells us how the government has meanly deprived him of the lease of the Kissingen waters.

The only happy event is the arrival of Frl. Nietzsche; pretty, friendly, cheerful, she is to stay here during our absence.
