Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 1, 1875

Overview

R. is again troubled by a vivid dream of humiliation at the hands of the late King of Prussia, while in waking life he pushes ahead with the composition for Frau Schott and plays it for me in the evening. His health and spirits remain strained by practical worries, from Glatz and the restaurant to mounting debts and the failed dealings with Voltz and Batz, though I do finish the first volume of Gfrorer before nightfall.

Content

Monday, February 1:

R. again had a wild dream about the disgraceful way in which the late King of Prussia treated him in consequence of a remark he made about Prussia. I had also been there.

R. works on his composition for Frau Schott and in the evening plays it to me. R. is still not well, and he also has a lot of vexations to put up with: the disappointment with Glatz, the question of the restaurant, the piling up of bills, and above all the botched relationship with Voltz and Batz.

In the evening completed the first volume of Gfrörer.
