Thursday, March 5:
R. tells me that during the night he saw me in the room with Fidi, who had some curious spots, and I said to him, “The boy will not go to bed, it is past his time, he is so excited.”
Herr Gross comes in the morning to tell us that the King has signed the agreement. I write to Malwida. In the afternoon at the house. R. very worn out, he writes to Richter to find out if in 3 months’ time he can be at his disposal (from May).
In the evening the Thursday gathering; the question of hotels during performance season debated with Karl Kolb. Delight in Fidi; but when, with some alarm, I notice him pulling many faces, R. says to me, “He won’t become a play actor, he will have the same distaste for it as I have; the idea of going in front of an audience with a painted face and getting myself applauded would appall me - it has never occurred to me to do that.”
“What prince except the King of Bavaria has a sense of honor?” R. recently exclaimed during a conference.
