Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 4, 1873

Overview

On this fine day, domestic tensions and house worries dominated despite some time in the garden and a bit of work by R. The monarchy in France seemed to be collapsing, which prompted gloomy reflections, and there was continuing concern over R.'s inclination toward new acquisitions. Boni was still unwell, adding to the day’s unease.

Tuesday, November 4:

Very fine day, which I, however, spend in discussions with the paper hanger. But R. writes a page of his score. In the afternoon in the garden, in the evening Tuther.

It seems now to be all over with the monarchy in France, after Count Chambord very properly pointed out to the French that they themselves no longer knew how to behave toward a legitimate prince! Gloomy thoughts on my part concerning the house. R. always inclining toward new acquisitions, I constantly worried.

Boni still unwell.
