Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of July 17, 1873

Overview

Workiness and domestic trouble dominate, yet the composer’s renewed enjoyment of labor gives the day some energy. A conversation about deafness and blindness turns reflective, weighing sensory suffering against distraction and experience. The entry closes with the first volume of reading and a sense that quiet itself has become a condition to endure.
