Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 11, 1873

Overview

The diarist keeps to her disciplined morning while R. remains unwell and the heat continues. A walk to the theater grounds and Bürgereuth offers a restorative view of the countryside and hope for a future home there. Yet her emotional state is numb and dreamlike, defined more by endurance than desire.

Wednesday, June 11:

Kept to the early working hour. R. feels very unwell; the thundery heat is back again.

With the children to the theater and then to the Bürgerreuth, a charming view; the countryside pleases us more and more, may it provide a friendly home for the children!

I feel as if I am no longer really living, but just dreaming, so lacking in desires am I on my own behalf, and when I hear R. wishing for a carriage and horses I am glad that he is so young and full of strength, but I endeavor to ensure that my great tiredness does not tempt me to let things drift.

R. works on his score, but he is not well.
