Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 1, 1873

Overview

The day combines creative labor, domestic planning, and anxiety about an upcoming performance. Fine weather briefly lifts the mood, and the new house becomes a site of quiet happiness in the presence of birds, trees, and a nesting stork. Conversation later moves to Greek politics and order, broadening the entry from family life to cultural thought.

Thursday, May 1:

Today R. wanted to resume work on his score, but he feels too unwell. I intend today to select wall coverings for the new house. Otherwise, preparations for the 22nd; I am quite worried, as the news from Würzburg is not at all good.

In the evening R. reads to me Frauen Treue by Konrad von Würzburg, an original account of his wedding; wonderful impressions!
