Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Patrons of the Bayreuth Festival

August 14, 1876 · Bayreuth

Subject

Public notice, sent to Heckel for printing

Overview

A notice for the festival public, sent to Heckel to pass to the printer: the Patrons are asked not to take it ill that the author and performers will not take curtain calls, since they wish to appear only within the frame of the artwork itself.

Letter

The honoured Patrons of the Bühnenfestspiele must not take it ill of either the author or the performers, if they do not acknowledge the marks of approbation most kindly bestowed on them by appearing before the curtain, as they have agreed to carry out this abnegation in order to present themselves before the public exclusively within the frame of the artwork represented by them.

Richard Wagner.
