Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Emil Heckel

January 28, 1872 · Berlin

Overview

The cash is not yet needed, but Wagner wants an exact statement of the Mannheim Verein's Patronat-vouchers sent to the banker Feustel, as he is setting up an energetic central management at Bayreuth. He also asks for a list of all existing Wagner-Vereins with their addresses.

Letter

Honoured Friend,

The cash itself will probably not be needed for the moment; but I beg you to send by return of post to banker Friedrich Feustel at Bayreuth an exact specification of the state of your Verein (you lately wrote of 16 Patronat-vouchers), so that it may be entered in the register. By the time your letter arrives I myself shall be at Bayreuth, where I am setting up an energetic Central-management of my affair, as it was high time to quit the dilettantism of hitherto.

Hearty thanks for your willingness to undertake the journey. If you preserve this spirit, you may render us great services. Before all, I beseech you to obtain me as accurate a list as possible of the existing Wagnervereins, with their addresses. Should conferences be necessary, I shall count on you. More another time. Hearty greetings to the Righteous!

Yours faithfully,

Richard Wagner.
