Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Minna Wagner

September 12, 1859 · Paris

Overview

A hasty note in the midst of moving: Wagner gives Minna his new address in the Avenue de Matignon, where he has taken a quiet furnished lodging for a month, thanks her for her letter of 6 September, and explains that Devrient's absence sent him straight on from Strassburg to Paris.

Letter

Dearest Minna,

I'm writing you in greatest haste (in the midst of removal) merely to give you my present address. It is Monsieur R. W., 4. Avenue de Matignon, Champs Elysées, Paris.

I have just taken this very nice and quiet furnished logis for a month. I'll write you particulars tomorrow or the next day. I received your letter of the 6th September, and was highly delighted with it. I couldn't wait for your expected letter at Strassburg, as Devrient was prevented from coming, and I therefore travelled on to Paris without further halt. — So — Adieu for to-day — soon more from

Thy dear Husband.
