January 7, 1862 · Paris

Overview

A brief note: still in Paris, Wagner plans to move to Wiesbaden at the end of the month, confesses he feels weak enough to need a friendly word, and holds out for the sake of Die Meistersinger.

Letter

My Child, I am still here! End of the month I think of transferring myself to Wiesbaden. — I confess to feeling weak enough to need a friendly word.

I am not pleased with myself thereat!

Yet the Mastersingers help: for their sake I'll hold out!

Adieu!
