Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Wesendonck family

Undated · Zurich

Overview

Addressed to the whole Wesendonck family, children included, a playful invitation for that evening, probably to a reading of the newly finished Tristan poem, with Gottfried Semper and Georg Herwegh expected; Wagner signs himself "Lazarus."

Letter

To the highly-esteemed Familie Wesendonck (Myrrha, Guido, Karl etc.)

I don't want to leave it to Fortune whether you turn up this evening, but to ensure that good fortune by begging it of you. I am expecting Semper and Herwegh. So — early, please!

R. W. Lazarus.
