Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Anton Pusinelli

December 16, 1844 · Dresden

Overview

The first of many loans: Wagner thanks Pusinelli for 150 thalers advanced that day, promises repayment by Easter, and wonders aloud why one cannot do without money.

Letter

Dearest Friend!

Heartiest thanks for your kind willingness to be of aid! — You may surely count on the fulfilling of my promise to pay back the 150 thalers which you have loaned me today, by Easter of next year at the latest.

— Is it not truly disgusting — to have need of MONEY? Why can't one do without it!

Once more, best thanks, until further notice in person!
