Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Theodor Uhlig

November 1, 1851 · Albisbrunn

Overview

Härtels have read the "Vorwort" to the three opera poems and will not venture to publish it, so Wagner has asked Avenarius to take it on. He sends a copy of Oper und Drama for Rühlmann and praises Uhlig's "Confessions" and remarks on Sattler.

Letter

Well! Härtels have only just read the "Vorwort," and will not venture to publish it. I have written to A. that he or another may undertake the matter.

I have just written to the R.'s.

You will receive, according to my instructions to Weber, two copies of Oper und Drama: one is for Rühlmann: best greetings to him from me. Heartiest wishes for Elsa's recovery! I have no fresh news.

I quite understood your joke — very good! Your "Confessions" excellent. I congratulate you! Likewise the remarks about Sattler. You are the right sort of chap! Good-bye, old fellow!
