Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Franziska Wagner

Undated · Villeneuve

Overview

Advising his niece, Wagner reflects that he was truly unhappy only while he was not a whole person and tried to reconcile fire and water; now, however much he suffers, facing death at every moment has restored his love of life, since he despises a life without true content.
