Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Carl Voltz

April 10, 1876 · Bayreuth

Overview

Wagner dismisses Voltz's concern over his Iphigenia arrangement as unimportant, explains where the scores are, and welcomes a visit.

Letter

Dearest Herr Voltz!

As to the Iphigenia, you are bothering me quite unnecessarily, particularly at the present moment. Iphigenia is and remains a matter of very small importance which will hardly yield any essential profits, as the Iphigenia performances will be only a luxury of some very few theaters.

By the way, my original score has remained in Dresden: you can best trace it with Tichatschek's help. For present uses, Härtel's copy has been arranged by Tichatschek on the basis of my original score. He gave it me as a gift. I gave it to Härtels, so that they could make further copies and use them in case orders should come in.

I shall be very much pleased with your visit!

Yours,
Richard Wagner
