Richard Wagner to Sara Wolf-Oppenheimer

Overview

Learning that she is not strictly prevented after all, Wagner urges the singer to join the other artists at the Bayreuth rehearsals in July.

Letter

Honored Frau!

I have learned through my wife, who just saw her father, Franz Liszt, in Weimar about it, that owing to a visit of your husband and the conversation which then took place I had mistakenly believed you to be prevented (in a strict sense) from attending this year's rehearsals in Bayreuth. I thought I had to put up with the inevitable and to dispense with your visit next month. But if the reason should be not so imperative as I thought, I must assure you that only reluctantly would I resign myself to it, and that you therefore would highly delight and oblige me by joining all our artists as early as July, so that no breach would prevent their cooperation. Begging you to convey my best regards to your husband, I remain,

Yours sincerely
Richard Wagner
