Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Ernst Benedikt Kietz

March 8, 1852 · Zurich

Overview

Impatient for Lindemann's medical reply, Wagner blames Kietz's dawdling and encloses his programme note on the Tannhäuser Overture for translation.

Letter

Bad Fellow!

Surely it is your fault only that I have not yet received any answer from Lindemann; either you have not given him my letter or you are now putting off his answer, for you are a dawdler!

But I consider Lindemann's answer very important, and therefore I ask you urgently to see that he does answer quickly; or—if he does not want to answer me at all—that he so inform me.

I am sending herewith an explanation of the Tannhäuser Overture. Even if you don't want to perform it, see that it is translated.

Farewell!

Your
R. W.
