Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Ernst Benedikt Kietz

December 5, 1851 · Zurich

Overview

Introducing Hermann Müller, former Saxon guard officer and fellow water patient, on his first visit to Paris, Wagner sends Opera and Drama for Anders and promises Kietz the three opera poems with their long preface.

Letter

Most excellent Kietz,

The bearer of this letter is Hermann Müller, former Guard Officer of the Saxon Army, of whom you probably have already heard. Take good care of him—this is his first time in Paris. We have both become water patients: find him a good water cure, which may not be so easy where you are!

He is bringing Anders my finished book Opera and Drama—if you want to read it through first, do so. For you I am saving my three opera poems with the long preface: unfortunately the publication of this book will be delayed until the New Year. But you will promptly get it then—in one way or another. Müller can tell you much about me and Minna. We both heartily greet you and are looking forward to a letter soon from you.

Farewell and be cheerful!

Your
Richard Wagner
