Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Emil Heckel

March 26, 1880 · Naples

Overview

From the Villa Angri at Posillipo, Wagner asks that royalties be sent to Feustel and the receipt forms to him, and teasingly asks whether he is already dead to all Germany or Heckel has perished through theatrical art.

Letter

Dear old Friend,

You surely must again have amassed some money for me of late; I'm not quite sure if I have already written begging you to have the money sent to Feustel at Bayreuth, the receipt-forms for my signature, however, to myself at "Villa Angri, Posilipo, Naples."

I hear nothing from you, not even — and unfortunately — on the aforesaid business route. Am I already dead for all Germania, then, or have you perished through theatric art? For the rest, I am not being treated quite as I deserve: we shall see if that will be improved by yourself.

Best greetings from villa to house! Remain good to

Your
thoroughly devoted

Rich. Wagner.
