Monday, August 21:
R. comes to me and says he needs no religion; for him I am the revelation of all that is good and beautiful, I am his fairy tale, the dream for which he lives. Smilingly we admit that it is good when a shadow falls between us, for then we appreciate our happiness even more profoundly and fervently.
Marie Schleinitz announces a visit. Letter from Dr. Standhartner about business affairs. Yesterday I had letters from Claire, Kathchen, and Hedwig.
Visit from Marie Schleinitz with Baron Loen; discussion about entrusting everything to small committees, nothing to my father or Marie Muchanoff. The Willes and Wesendoncks are also to remain entirely uninvolved. Baron Loen will take Tausig’s place.
Arrival of a pineapple from Herr von Gersdorff. In the evening the Schleinitzes, Princess Hatzfeld, and Baron Loen. In the afternoon R. overwhelms me with love, which banishes all cares; but cares still exist. The King is said to be looking very bad. God knows what will become of us.
