Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of July 14, 1871

Overview

Cosima confides her wretched state to Richard and finds him tender as ever. Letters bring Viennese help from Kafka, friendliness from the King, and bad news of her mother's illness, while Richter's letter displeases them. Richard plays the first scene for her, and she finds it wonderful.

Friday, July 14:

I inform R. of my wretched condition; he is good and angelic as always. Letters from Dr. Kafka, who wants to look after our undertaking in Vienna, and from the King, very friendly as always. Letter from Claire: my mother is still ill.

With Loulou to Frau Schott, who visits us again in the evening. R. plays his first scene to me, wonderful. Letter from Richter, which does not please us.
