Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 8, 1871

Overview

Cold indoor weather, children's work, and family games cannot dispel Cosima's heaviness over news of Hans. Richard is unwell, adding to her burden. Carlyle's account of Hochkirch brings evening admiration for the silent heroism of the Prussians.

Thursday, June 8:

Work with the children, then family lunch and later family games. The weather is cold, and we stay indoors. R. is not well. My heart is at times very heavy; the recent news of Hans weighs it down.

In the evening, the Battle of Hochkirch; delight in the splendid Prussians, silent in their heroism.
