Monday, May 15:

Made some small purchases, tried in vain to see Kasperl’s master, but his “niece,” who sits beside the stall, tells us he is at home. Does he come from here? we ask. “No, from far away.”

We walk once more to the castle; birds singing and flowers blooming. At 1 o’clock took leave of Heidelberg. Met Count Dunken on the train. At 8 o’clock in Basel, where we spend a nice evening in the hotel with Prof. Nietzsche and our nephew Friedrich Brockhaus.
