Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 18, 1869

Overview

Richard is unwell and unable to work, while Vreneli goes to Zurich to bring Kos home. A friendly anonymous letter about the Jewish pamphlet and Richter's search for singers for Tristan, Rheingold, and Walküre show Wagner's public activity gathering force. Cosima, still without news of the children, asks Richard to write Hans and fills the spring day with embroidery, score work, and garden time.

Thursday, March 18:

R. unwell, unable to work. Vreneli to Zurich to fetch Kos. A friendly anonymous letter about the Jewish pamphlet.

Letter from Richter, who is starting on a journey to find singers, for Tristan und Isolde, Das Rheingold, and Die Walküre have all been commanded for this year!

About the children, however, I learn nothing, and consequently ask R. to write a few lines to Hans, just so that he should not feel aggrieved at receiving no answer to various letters.

Did a lot of embroidery and inking in, also much time in the garden; glorious spring day; Winterstürme wichen.
